I always played ttrpgs in theater of mind mode, like:"Your sensors pick up a moving heat signature in the difficult rocky terrain 50 paces ahead but you actually can't see anything clearly. Roll perception. Ah, when you look in the direction you see the mottled grey rocks move. Hum, biologist character Bob recognizes it as a camouflaged Hylian land squid."
