I've been working on a series for quite some time about the history of 3D in gaming. How it became a fad and fizzled away.

You do mention Total Annihilation, the first 3D RTS, right?

I didn't know what this was so I looked it up.

This video covers was stereoscopic 3D in video games.

So like games that used an effect to make it seem like the visuals were appearing out from the screen utilizing stereoscopic effects

Did this use some type of 3D effect to this degree?

Oh, no. It wasn't a camera trick; projectiles actually fly in 3D and can miss, units actually move up real hills and mountains and down onto lakebeds (as opposed to fake RA1, RA2, and Tiberian Sun ones), etc. Never mind, then!

That is an interesting topic....the history of 2D to 3D gaming...

This Would be incredibly extensive though and Scott the Woz has definitely covered this subject in much detail

Yes, I had 2 monster3d* voodoo 2 cards and could play sort of most 3dfx games with shutter* glasses in more or less good 3d.

(* I am pretty sure but it's been a long time)

It was draining like most 3d implementations but the novelty wore off rather quickly too.

I was trying to find some stuff to link but was mostly unsuccessful but I'll give it another go.

It might have been that wicked3d stuff:

No, don't, nothing is ever complete. If it really was that wicked3d, it's very niche and surprising I even had it 😁.
