Video game movies have a chance of being good, they are almost always trash with a slim chance of being good. For a game with a lot of lore and no plot, the chance of being good is close to zero.
Maybe a miracle will happen.

wrote on 23 May 2025, 13:33 last edited bymy preference would be a film about the shattering, giving us some (but not too much) more insight into just what fucked the world up so godsdamned much.
but that would need to be extremely faithful to the lore and character designs and i just don't see hollywood showing up for that.

Second, Detective Pikachu, Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros Movie, and I'm not sure if it would count, but Wreck It Ralph are all good video game movies.

What… uh… I can’t imagine this movie being weird enough to feel like a movie based on a FROMSOFT game while still being accessible to the wide audience needed for a big budget fantasy movie to make money.

The 2023 movie is forgettable garbage.
The Sonic movies are fun though. Knuckles TV as well.

I kind of hate Elden Ring. I've played plenty of these games, but I've died easily like 2 or 3 times more here. And, more often than ever, I don't know what to do next, which is easily compensated with another couple of deaths. Nah, I will never watch this.

Can you make a movie out of pure lore? Maybe a prequel, like The Fall of Hoarah Loux or Ranni's Rebellion? Will the audience be required to parry things?
wrote on 23 May 2025, 14:32 last edited bySorry, best we can do is having the audience dodge roll every scene.

wrote on 23 May 2025, 15:09 last edited byIts funny in this case because not "fucking it up" effectively means making a movie that's barely related to the game outside of the basic setting.

wrote on 23 May 2025, 16:17 last edited byI’m cautiously optimistic. The lack of a plot in the game leaves a lot of creative room for the film and the deep lore gives them a lot to work with. Also it’s Alex garland and a24 so like. I’m in.

I really wish studios would just start hiring writters and making original content. Im so bored of everything being ripped from other media.

wrote on 23 May 2025, 17:20 last edited byI think about this a lot
I love the idea of media expanding on the lore, but needing to insert a plot could ruin it
My only "solution" is a TV series instead of a movie and every episode should be a separate story
