We have added a new rule to the community:

Rule # 1: Stay on Topic

The purpose of this community has always been to share news and have discussions about everything related to Nintendo, some of these can be good, some of these can be bad. If you want to gush over the new Mario, you are welcome to do so, if you want to criticise Nintendo for their various lawsuits, you are also welcome to do so, as they are all on topic discussions.

What is not on-topic is posting "Fuck Nintendo" and it's variations on random posts. We have generally ignored these before, as we don't want to stop anyone from sharing their sentiments, but this has started to increase the toxicity in the posts, for those who do enjoy Nintendo games and the community. You can still disagree, or even hate Nintendo, but your comment must be related to the post. If you just want to discuss general issues with Nintendo, you are welcome to create a post detailing it's failures, as long as it doesn't break any other rules.

So, in short, comments like the following are fine:

"Man, I hate Nintendo, why can't they give the game upgrades for free like PlayStation?"

But comments like the ones below are off-topic and will be removed:

    "Fuck Nintendo"

    Or

    "I hope this flops"

Please report any off-topic posts you find, so that mods can take a look and remove them.

    Thanks

P.S: Since this rule has been added on top, as #1, all other rule numbers have increased by 1, so previous #1 has become #2, and #2 has become #3 and so on.

Thank you. Trite comments like those definitely fall on the wrong end of the signal vs. noise spectrum.

I got the first down vote within seconds of making the post, which was hardly enough time to read even the first paragraph. It seems some people just see "Nintendo" (or maybe it's my name) and just downvote it.

Not sure why people follow the community if they don't like the content.

I mod a community, every post got a downvote within a short amount of time until we mods got the feature to see who does up or downvotes. I wouldn't do anything, the person never post something, so i can't anyways, but if a person downvote something so much, probably it would just be easier to block a community to not see their stuff anymore. The rule is good and i need to take you maybe as a rolemodel for my communities.

I’ve noticed it too, the people of Lemmy really despise Nintendo.

I think a lot lemmy user are pc gamer. I have never seen a statistic, but just guessing from the post people do in the jrpg community. And That's fine, but it's fine as well to prefer consoles or using them as well.

I don't want to say pc gamers all hate nintendo, but probably a few

Lemmy has become a lot less civil over the last several months. It’s been disappointing to see, and I engage a lot less. Reddit banning people like crazy hasn’t helped.

I appreciate it. Since the switch 2 announcement especially I’ve been seeing Lemmy as a whole as a much more negative space than before. I think this new rule will help atleast in this community.

Thank you. The circlejerking has gotten so far out of hand and it's tiring. It's gotten to the point where I can't say I'm excited for Kirby Air Riders without someone following me around to tell me I am literally killing gaming - and yes, that was an actual reply guy I had to deal with.

I don't go into into communities for things I hate just to annoy the people there, and I don't understand why anyone feels the need to come here just to be obnoxious.

Had never seen this video (even though it's 14(!) years old)... but I love it.

Immediately added it to my favorites.

Thank you. I think most communities need to enforce a rule like this because there are a lot of ridiculous people on the platform. I post a ton on /c/games and /c/movies and I'm still getting a lot of comments that are essentially whining about hating the company that made it or telling others to stop enjoying it. If you're on a gaming community and aren't here to talk about gaming, why ARE you here in the first place?

Shoutout to a lot of times I post about a new game and get occasional comments similar to "Ew why would I buy a 70 euro game when I can wait 2 years to buy it at 15 euros". adds absolutely nothing to the conversation. Also the occasional "is this post an ad???" comment for posting an article about upcoming games.

It's just not interesting for anyone else to read. The majority of us just want to keep up to date with video game news and occasionally discuss it. We aren't interested in taking up the cause.

I think that people have a hard time recognizing that you can like a thing but hate the company that made it and that's not cognitive dissonance.

I second this, it's incredibly frustrating and perhaps because of the type of demographic that's on Lemmy, it happens a lot more than on Reddit?

Partially that, but Lemmy also has a much stronger anti-capitalist/pro-socialist streak so the corporate pile-ons can be a lot fiercer.

I won't use the same words, but the video missingno shared captures the sentiment.

It's completely fine for you to hate Nintendo, even I don't agree with some of the things that they do, but that doesn't mean spoiling fun for others. You are more than welcome to share your opinion on any related post, for the rest, you can just ignore them and move on.

Yeah, lemmy users used to be really considerate, so it's sad to see it is starting to get plagued by the same issue as other social networks have.

Lemmy has become a lot less civil over the last several months. It’s been disappointing to see, and I engage a lot less. Reddit banning people like crazy hasn’t helped.

Didn't know reddit was banning people, what happened?

I mod a community, every post got a downvote within a short amount of time until we mods got the feature to see who does up or downvotes. I wouldn't do anything, the person never post something, so i can't anyways, but if a person downvote something so much, probably it would just be easier to block a community to not see their stuff anymore. The rule is good and i need to take you maybe as a rolemodel for my communities.

I agree, Cosmic, our mod, had the same issue in his other community. I would prefer not to ban anyone though, so hopefully this will solve the problem and it won't come to that.
