Comic Books

A place to discuss comic books of all types, from old to new, Big 2 to indie, and everything in between.

Floppies, graphic novels, compilations, omnibusses (omnibusi?) are all fair game.

There is only one rule:*

Comic Books is a no judgement zone.

You can talk all you want about how Rob Liefeld is trash, Bob Kane is an asshole, or Frank Miller and Dave Sim’s politics have made them toxic, that’s all good.

If, however, another user is LEGITIMATELY a fan of something you don’t like, that does NOT make them a lesser person. Attack the art for being bad, not the person for being a fan of bad art.

* I lied. There are TWO rules… No piracy. Cover shots? That’s good. Interior pages, in moderation? Sure. Full books? Links to pirate sites? That’s how we get things shut down. :(

I’m not saying it’s been a problem, because it hasn’t been.

I’m never getting the rest of the Invincible figures I wanted, am I? (They aren’t great figures, but they’re something)

I heavily disagree, I love almost all of the Superman comics I've read. But I don't trust DC to make a good movie, especially at this point in the genre's lifespan.

IIRC as the article already mentioned, these were the kind of his moves that were quite unique, experimental and even trail-blazing. I thought the first SW was a pretty interesting yarn, even if this kind of thing later got turned in to a product. But that was going to be the case, regardless. Anything successful was always going to be imitated until turned in to product.

OK I ended up also getting X-Men Hellfire Vigil #1 while I was there. It's in the same story as the others I'm reading right now.

Hardcover would be great -- I think I would get one if it was a hardcover. The one I was looking at was just a softcover. Seemed like the weight of the pages would easily be enough to damage the book itself.

It seems this thread about a misprint is wrought with misprints.

HOLY CRAP WHAT A WEEK! First - Two from last week I kind of slept on, picked them up this week, worth a read: Benjamin #1 - A pulp writer, in the vein of a Robert E. Howard or a Phillip K. Dick wakes up in a seedy motel with no memory of how he got there. Turns out, he had a heart attack and died decades ago... and then it gets STRANGE. They Choose Violence #1 - Three women, each touched by violence, and rejected by the justice system, turn to violent action. This one has a twist ending. My local shop told me this is a mis-print and they were asked to destroy all copies. If you can find it, grab it. No word on what the mis-print is. I was lucky and scored 2 copies, will be interesting to compare to the corrected version. https://comicsheatingup.net/2025/06/17/recall-alert-they-choose-violence-1/ https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1344612641003833&id=100063653287903 This Week: Absolute Martian Manhunter #4 - Continuing the alternate version of Martian Manhunter, for my money the best of the Absolute runs. Assorted Crisis Events #4 - From the author of Absolute Martian Manhunter, what happens to average citizens as they live through one crisis event after another. Department Of Truth #31 - The continuing story of a world created by what people believe and the organizations manipulating reality by determining what people do or do not believe. Flash #22 - One of the better Flash stories involving fluctuating reality... maybe feels a little like it's dragging on at this point. From The World Of Minor Threats Welcome To Twilight #4 - Always a fun read. Super-villain stories where the villains are... minor threats. Ghost Machine: Shared universe at Image. Hyde Street #7 - Damned characters stealing the souls of other damned characters. If they collect 10,000 souls, they can return to life. Pranky the demon boy scout is well over the limit and seems to have made it a personal mission to block others from hitting the goal. Rocketfellers #6 - A family from the 25th century is trapped in the 21st and struggling to fit in. Green Arrow #25 - New story arc starts here! Green Lantern Dark #5 - Alternate reality GL story, good read. Huck Big Bad World #2 - A Superman story if Superman were mentally disabled. Huck is a simple-minded do-good, feel-good character. Justice League Unlimited #8 - Moonshine Bigfoot #3 - 70s and 80s references... with Bigfoot! Mr. Terrific Year One #2 - New History Of The DC Universe #1 - Peacemaker Presents The Vigilante Eagly Double Feature #4 - Purpose Project #1 One-Shot - With an inroduction by Andrew Yang, it envisions a future where everyone no longer has to work because they are granted a Universal Basic Income... but they still go to the office anyway? And do nothing? Because that's what they've ALWAYS done? Spider-Boy #20 - Final issue! Spider-Man And Wolverine #2 - Retconning what happened to Peter Parker's parents... Spoiler! Wolverine killed 'em? Really? Thing #2 - Ultimate Spider-Man #18 - We're Taking Everyone Down With Us #4 - X-Universe: Uncanny X-Men #16 - Giant-Size Age Of Apocalypse #1 - X-Men From The Ashes Demons And Death #1 -

DC really screwed the pooch with this one. I no longer sell comics at my shop, but this is the kind of shit that helped me decide to stop selling them.

Jay as Daredevil, Silent Bob as Green Arrow. In the background Dante "I'm not even supposed to BE here today!"

No dice. But, they did have Wolverine and Kitty Pryde #2, and I had forgotten that I picked up #1 a while ago. So I didn't leave empty handed.

The comic is really powerful, if you're into that kind of stylised martial arts philosophy.

There really aren't any rules for Annuals, just think of them as birthday issues for your favorite title. They CAN be part of the month to month continuity, but they don't have to be. I've even seen annuals that have their own continuity with other annuals. If it's part of a larger continuity, that will usually be noted on the cover. For example: [image: 4204f1f4-2d54-453b-853a-57d8d7e7f076.jpeg] They can be by the same creative team as the monthly book, but again, they don't have to be. Sometimes annuals serve as try-out books for new writers and artists to see how they handle a property.
