It’s 92° F in a port city in Japan today. And humid. Was the user charging the switch 2 when this happened? If an iPhone is overheating I don’t see why a switch would be any different.

But doesn't the switch have active cooling? Or is that only when docked?

The reports in the article both complain about no fan, and fan noise...

Chill. Every piece of hardware has a fault rate. Millions sold, how many overheat?

              So just a thought:

Nintendo releases overclocked consoles for better performance on release (and by extension better overall perfomance reviews), and down the line they release a patch to tether down the heat issue.

Coincidentally, these reports are coming with heat waves everywhere.

This is extremely unlikely. Dealing with not only outrage from people whose consoles were slowed down, but also heat from NVIDIA (a company notorious for wanting absolute control over their chips) would not be worth it at all for some better launch reviews.

Are you sure it won't affect games on release like cyberpunk, which pretty much runs like shit on every small console?

Besides that, I'm sure NVIDIA is at fault here and not Nintendo /s

An overclock definitely would help performance, even some high end PCs can struggle to run Cyberpunk at an appropriate resolution. However, I do not think Nintendo (or any console manufacturer) would take the risk of a factory overclock, especially considering they are probably using lower bin chips to reduce production costs.
